Medical PG entrance exam three important aspects of preparation – Studying strategies, Time management and Self assessment

Students usually get sleepless nights while preparing for medical PG entrance exams. However, if they follow a set schedule without stressing themselves, then they can do fare well in their exams. In this article our prime focus will be towards the right approach to be followed while preparing for medical PG entrance exams such as AIPGMEE, AIIMS, DNB-CET and JIPMER etc.

Preparation Strategy- a core aspect- There are three important aspects of preparation that students need to follow strictly. The first one is to plan a strategy that suits them. This can include creating a study pattern, time table to be followed or joining coaching classes. It includes everything that students believe they need to clear the medical PG entrance exams, as they are the best judge to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Identifying those strengths and weaknesses is the toughest part, but once they are through with it, they just need to put in their act together and work on them.

There are several ways to formulate the plan that work best for them. For few doing combined study with friends can yield better results while for others it might turn out to be disaster, as they may get involved in gossip session.  Also doubts are a part of the learning process, so make sure you get them cleared as soon as possible. Hence, it is highly advisable to practice what you have learnt during MBBS by solving as many as MCQs you can, as this will help you to assess you preparation level.

Time Management is the key mantra to success- Time management is the most important aspect, as time is very limited and students are required to utilize it efficiently. It becomes difficult to cover all the subjects in limited time, hence, students should try and follow a time table to ensure utilizing their time judiciously. If students are not aware of how to solve MCQs question in limited time while appearing in the main medical PG entrance exam than everything can go haywire.

Self analysis/assessment required- Self assessment is another aspect that plays a vital role when there is cut-throat competition. Identify the weak areas by practicing MCQs, mock tests and question papers available online. This will help to improve the weaknesses that will go a long way in helping them to prepare for the medical PG entrance exams. Students should try and spend more time on improving their weak subjects apart from strengthening stronger ones. Balancing out both of them is an essential part that needs to be handled carefully.

A time to time evaluation of the preparation level is important to analyse where you stand among your peers.
